Jake Paul vs Nate Diaz Set to Battle in the Boxing Ring on August 5 in Dallas

Two major combat sports personalities are gearing up for an epic showdown this summer.

On August 5, YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul will face former UFC bad boy Nate Diaz in a boxing match at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, as officials informed ESPN on Wednesday. The 185-pound bout will consist of eight rounds with 10-ounce gloves and will be available for worldwide pay-per-view streaming through DAZN.

This event will be a joint effort between Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions and Diaz’s Real Fight Inc., marking Diaz’s first self-promotion and first fight outside the UFC in 15 years, as well as his professional boxing debut. Diaz has participated in some of UFC’s largest pay-per-view events, while Paul has quickly gained a reputation as a top boxing draw despite his limited experience.

Over the past 18 months, Diaz and Paul have exchanged heated words on social media and in interviews. In October, tensions escalated when Diaz’s and Paul’s teams clashed backstage during a boxing event headlined by Paul and UFC legend Anderson Silva. After defeating Silva, Paul challenged Diaz during his post-fight interview.

While Diaz has typically fought in MMA at 155 pounds and more recently at 170 pounds, Paul has fought as a pro weighing up to 191.5 pounds. He weighed in at 183.6 pounds for his bout with Fury.

Paul (6-1) experienced his first career boxing loss in a split decision against Tommy Fury in February. The Ohio native, who trains in Puerto Rico, remains undefeated against MMA fighters, including Silva, Tyron Woodley, and Ben Askren. Paul, 26, has been a professional since 2020.

“My last fight didn’t end the way I wanted, but the result was the best thing that could have happened to my professional boxing aspirations,” Paul shared in a statement. “Now, the world thinks I am vulnerable, when all I am is more focused than ever. My team wanted me to take an easy fight like KSI next, but that’s not how I am built. Nate Diaz is considered one of the most bad-ass fighters of all time, but he and his team have been running their mouths for too long.”

Diaz (21-13) completed his UFC contract with a submission victory over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 in September. Hailing from Stockton, California, Diaz is responsible for Conor McGregor’s first UFC loss in 2016. Diaz, 37, has headlined 10 UFC events, won The Ultimate Fighter 5 tournament in 2007, and is one of MMA’s most popular fighters. He has also sparred with top boxer Andre Ward.

“Besides Canelo, he’s the biggest thang in boxing,” Diaz stated. “I’m here to conquer that. I’m the King of combat sports and then I’m headed back to get my UFC belts. I f—ed up Conor for acting out and now here I am again, like a Super Hero of the Real Fight game, the King of the Real Fight game.”

Diaz has expressed his intention to return to the UFC, with a McGregor trilogy fight still possible in the future. Meanwhile, Paul had considered a rematch with Tommy Fury or a bout with fellow YouTube star KSI. Ultimately, the Paul vs. Diaz matchup was too enticing to pass up.
