Adesanya was putting his UFC middleweight title on the line. The fight was scheduled for five rounds, lasted the entire distance and sensationally ended in favor of Strickland after a unanimous decision of the judges (three times 49-46). Thus, Shawn earned his 28th career victory, while Adesanya suffered his third loss in MMA. Video from the fight is presented below.
It should be noted that the previous time Israel Adesanya entered the octagon in April: he defeated Brazilian Alex Pereira (8-2) by knockout in the second round. As for Sean Strickland, he fought in July and ended his fight with Russian fighter Abusupyan Magomedov (25-5-1) with the same result.
